I LOVE THE MODERN WORLD

Guys, I keep writing chapter forty, and everything that's spewing out my keyboard right now is terrible.

I hope those of you who are reading regularly will have patience with me. I don't want to post something shitty.

This is so draining though. I feel like I'm going around in circles, so at this particular point, everything I'm writing is boring me.

Sorry, guys! I hope I'll have something worth posting before long. Sigh.

So, my laptop is broken in a very irritating way.

For the past few months, the screen has been shattered - but only partially. I've still been using it because hey, 3/4 of the screen is enough, and more importantly I just plain can't afford to get it fixed.

Of course, the cracks make the screen very weak, and today it finally bit, er, more of the dust. I now have half a screen!

This would be workable if it was the right fucking half. As it is, the left side has shattered and is now completely unusable (whitescreen mess of broken pixels, no cursor, no nothing), which you might remember as being the side of the screen with:

a) the start button
b) the desktop icons
c) the taskbar programs

Because of the way I had my taskbar programs arranged, I've been juuust about able to select different programs (my holy trinity of itunes, open office and firefox) for the past few months, but now I can't even do that anymore. If I hadn't had a browser window open at the time when the cracks got worse, I wouldn't even be able to post this. As it is, with half a screen, I'm zipping this window back and forth like I'm writing this at a fucking typewriter.

Ugh...any suggestions of what to do, guys? Miraculous cheap ways of getting it fixed? I usually try to laugh off computer issues but on this occassion I am truly...just...ugh.

I need to be rich for one day. I'm so sick of shit like this :S

About fic updates, I'll try my best, but I don't know if I can make it work guys. I need to find a way of opening open office without a start menu or taskbar, and then not give myself a stress hernia by typing in a document that's too small.

Oh, and if I have to turn my computer off for any reason, I am fucked three ways from friday because my login screen is now unusable.

This is the last post about On a Highway until On a Highway, I swear!

I just wanted to fill you guys in on what this rewrite is for, what's going to be changing, etc.

So, first of all, the tenses. There was already a 'fore-chapter', so I decided to expand that and use a prologue/epilogue framing device around this fic, which has helped me sort out the pacing a little and have a think about timelines, etc. The prologue, I've kept in the present tense, the body of the story will be a more traditional past-tense narrative, and the epilogue will be present tense again.

Secondly, I think this fic had a strong start and then started to wane. Therefore, there are less changes to the earlier chapters. There are a few, and some things have been neatened up, but the later chapters are where the real changes happen.

So I'm about 5000 words into this rewrite. I've noticed that the chapters for this fic are somewhat longer than my usual, but I don't think that's a problem particularly. I don't plan to start posting until I have finished rewriting and am up to new chapters, but I have been supported in the idea to post On a Highway and House of Cards simultaneously.

So that's it! Insecurity drove this fic into the ground originally, so if you like it, please don't be shy!
