So, my laptop is broken in a very irritating way.

For the past few months, the screen has been shattered - but only partially. I've still been using it because hey, 3/4 of the screen is enough, and more importantly I just plain can't afford to get it fixed.

Of course, the cracks make the screen very weak, and today it finally bit, er, more of the dust. I now have half a screen!

This would be workable if it was the right fucking half. As it is, the left side has shattered and is now completely unusable (whitescreen mess of broken pixels, no cursor, no nothing), which you might remember as being the side of the screen with:

a) the start button
b) the desktop icons
c) the taskbar programs

Because of the way I had my taskbar programs arranged, I've been juuust about able to select different programs (my holy trinity of itunes, open office and firefox) for the past few months, but now I can't even do that anymore. If I hadn't had a browser window open at the time when the cracks got worse, I wouldn't even be able to post this. As it is, with half a screen, I'm zipping this window back and forth like I'm writing this at a fucking typewriter.

Ugh...any suggestions of what to do, guys? Miraculous cheap ways of getting it fixed? I usually try to laugh off computer issues but on this occassion I am truly...just...ugh.

I need to be rich for one day. I'm so sick of shit like this :S

About fic updates, I'll try my best, but I don't know if I can make it work guys. I need to find a way of opening open office without a start menu or taskbar, and then not give myself a stress hernia by typing in a document that's too small.

Oh, and if I have to turn my computer off for any reason, I am fucked three ways from friday because my login screen is now unusable.

Jesus Christ I'm so fucking angry.

I know I have been pretty silent since I commented to be added, but you know irl stress and what not. I've been catching up on the newest chapters now.

Anyway, I'm so sorry about your screen. I totally understand the frustration of having your laptop break especially when you rely on it for a number of your outlets (writing, internet, music) the holy trinity of stress relief.
I don't know how you are with tech stuff and repair work but I found this how to guide for replacing your screen.

And then here are a few more articles on the subject.

In terms of computer repair, it seems easier that most. Maybe you or a friend could try it. I don't know.
Another suggestion that a lot of these tutorials make it to find someone locally to make repair for a reasonable rate.

Hang in there :hugs:

I most definitely know that irl stress ;)

Thanks so much for the links. It looks preeetty daunting but I'm gonna order the screen now and give it a go as soon as my boyfriend gets back (he's, er, a lot more tech-savvy than I am), so he can "supervise".

*sigh* my laptop is an old warhorse. I guess it's seen worse than this! Thank you :)

Oh that shit is not funny. I think I will mentally breakdown if my laptop gives up on me.. But well, it would help me spend less time on it, which wouldn't be such a bad thing, considering how much of a laptop addict I am... (come on, life without the internet is now laughable!)

I have no idea how to repair that crap, but I hope the links provided above will be useful... Because.. Half a screen? No fun. No fun at all.

I am sending you tons of courage waves, honey.

Yeah, I was most definitely at the mental breakdown stage earlier. As you know my living situation is pretty stressful right now so the last thing I needed was my only outlet going down!

I'm gonna try and fix it. I think tonight I'll just have to copy everything I have of the next chapter of HoC onto paper, and continue writing it the old fashioned way (cue many crossings-out and inky blurs). Then, maybe I can borrow my mum's computer to update it, if I do it all sneaky like in google's incognito mode. Damn my secret hobby!

I'm so annoyed that I need a new screen though. There goes fifty pounds that I don't have! SIGH.

Anyway, thanks love :) me and my ancient laptop will get through this!

BAWWWWWWWW what a terrible thing to happen!
I know I haven't commented on your stories yet but FYI I have read every chapter of HoC and long story short: I must read more.
):
I wish you luck in resolving this! <3

Oh my... that's terrible. I am not much of a technical genius, so I won't be any help at all (laptops and other technical stuff have a very short life-span once they're mine, lol).
But I really hope you'll find a way to fix it...!

Oh dear that's very bad, I have issues with my computer but it's not like yours I wish if I could help you :(
