Synopsis: When it comes to healing broken hearts, Toshiya is a professional. Good-looking and charming, he makes his living by gently helping the jilted to go on with their lives, whilst steadfastly refusing to settle down himself. Boasting a one hundred percent success rate, Toshiya is sure his method is flawless - until he meets Kaoru, a lonely academic who, despite Toshiya's better judgement, starts to get under his skin...

CHAPTER FOURTEEN:

Die rocked back in his chair, his expression pensive but somehow suspicious. In front of him, Toshiya squirmed, just slightly uncomfortable: his customer was suspicious, and Toshiya couldn’t blame him.
They sat in the same library Toshiya had first met Kaoru in. It might not have been the most obvious meeting point, but Toshiya liked it there; it gave him positive feelings, and besides, if they were in a library then Die couldn’t shout at him. He could almost believe Kaoru was sitting just behind one of the tall, dusty bookshelves, studiously taking notes with that adorably focussed expression on his face.
Toshiya realised that he was smiling moronically, and quickly rearranged his face to a more appropriate expression. He folded his hands on the table before him to stop himself from biting his nails or tapping his fingers.
“So you…told him you’d stay with him,” Die said carefully, his forehead creased in a frown, “And that’s…that’s good.”
Toshiya sat up a little straighter, shifting in his seat.
“I know it sounds weird,” he said uncomfortably. “But it’s an important part of it. He has to believe that people are capable of loving him.” He shrugged. “A lot of time, my clients have really low self-esteem because of how they were treated, so they need to have it spelled out for them.”
He nodded edgily, but Die’s expression remained uncertain.
“But…I don’t know, Toshiya. It’s a really big deal for him.”
“Believe me,” Toshiya said smoothly, “I wouldn’t do anything to jeopardise his future happiness. This is my job, Die. I’m good at it. Trust me.”

Die nodded thoughtfully. “Okay. Yeah, okay.” Suddenly he grinned and leant forwards, his pointy elbows on the table. “So, what did he say to you? He wouldn’t tell me.”
Toshiya smiled despite himself. In his mind Kaoru beamed up at him, fingers cupping his face cherishingly. “I love you,” he’d said, and though he hadn’t said it back he had simply kissed him instead, and they’d rolled onto the floor as they pulled at each other’s clothes…
He cleared his throat.
“He just…said he was very fond of me.” He nodded sedately, “Everything’s working out fine.”
“And did you…” Die raised his eyebrows, wriggling them suggestively. “You know – do the horizontal mambo?  Have a rumble in the jungle? A bit of the old slap and tickle—”
“Die—”
“Yeah, okay, sorry. But did you?” The redhead kept his eyebrows raised until Toshiya sighed and slumped.
Yes, we did. In his car—”
“In his car!”
“—And then later on the living room floor—”
“The floor!” Die squealed. By the bookshelf, a young librarian put her finger to her lips sternly.
“—And then, you know, in bed.” Toshiya said quietly, tugged at his ponytail a little uncomfortably.
Man,” Die enthused, “I didn’t know he had it in him. Go Kao.” He scratched at his head pensively, “Wow. That’s really pretty cool, you know. I never…” he shook his head. “I’ve known Kaoru for so long, but I guess I always thought he’d be kind of, you know, not…well, not really the kind of person who has sex in a car.”
Toshiya shrugged.
“I guess everyone’s different when they’re in love,” he mused. “No, he’s…he’s really great, Die. He’s the best client I’ve ever had.” He smiled a little, “I’ll be a little sad when it’s over.”
“Yeah?” Die shifted forward interestedly, “So what do you do, when it’s all over? D’you have like, a day job or whatever?”
Toshiya nodded amiably. “Oh yeah. I work at a boutique uptown. My boss knows about my sideline.” He fiddled with a book left on the table in front of him awkwardly, “It takes some time off and stuff, you know. Especially after Christmas. A lot of people break up over Christmas.”
“Toshiya? Die?”

The two of them leapt around guiltily. As if he had stepped out of Toshiya’s daydream, Kaoru had rounded the corner with a pile of old-looking volumes in his arms, looking – to Toshiya – delightfully bemused. He pulled his glasses from his face, blinking at the two of them questioningly.
“Kaoru!” Toshiya sprung to his feet, taking the books from the other man’s arms. “What are you – I didn’t know you were going to be here.”
“I have some research I wanted to cover,” Kaoru said uncertainly. “How do you two…how do you two know each other?”
Toshiya opened and closed his mouth silently; smoothly, Die slid in front of him.
“I bumped into Toshiya outside,” he told Kaoru, “I told him my friend Kaoru came here, and we got talking, and I found out that he’s your Toshiya.” He wriggled his eyebrows again. Toshiya watched him, spellbound.
“How could you keep him from me, eh?” the redhead teased, “He’s a catch.” He punched Toshiya in the shoulder gently, “He’s been singing your praises. And…” he grinned, “he told me that you two had sex in your car.”
It was impossible to tell who went redder, Kaoru or Toshiya. Mortified, the latter covered his face with his hands, whilst Kaoru looked as if he dearly wished the earth would open up and swallow him whole.
“Uh…” he looked at Toshiya helplessly, “Yeah.”
Blushing hotly, Toshiya set Kaoru’s books down on the table and brushed residual dust from his arms. Grinning apologetically, he sidled towards his client and took his hand. The other man’s embarrassed flush was so adorable that he couldn’t help but steal a kiss, pressing his lips against Kaoru’s sweetly.
“Hi,” he murmured, watching the flush stretch to Kaoru’s ears.
“Hi.” The older man responded, smiling shyly. He slid an arm around Toshiya’s waist and turned to face Die. “Well, I’m glad you two have met. I was meaning to introduce you at some point.”
Die had been fumbling with a book off a nearby history shelf, but now he stood up with an assured smile.
“Yeah, I’m mad you kept him from me,” he said, but his easy smile betrayed no anger. “Well, I’d better take off. Here, Toshiya, don’t forget this.” He handed Toshiya the book he’d been fussing with, and Toshiya took it uncertainly.
“But Die, I didn’t—”
“Yes you did,” the redhead said loudly. He widened his eyes significantly, and Toshiya glanced down at the book. It was an anthology of ancient Greek mythology: he gazed down at it, puzzled, until he noticed a small corner of paper poking out of the pages.
Die’s cheque, he realised, and sent the other man a quick glance of understanding.
“Thanks,” he mumbled, “See you around, Die.” He hugged the book a little tighter to his chest, watching as Kaoru and Die said their goodbyes.

“So what are you doing around here?” Kaoru asked when Die had left, “I didn’t expect to see you until tonight.” He bit his lip as he smiled, his hand caressing Toshiya’s ass briefly. “What’s your book?”
“Oh!” Toshiya jumped guiltily, “It’s, uh…”
“Greek mythology?” Kaoru asked gently, sounding pleased, “You came here for this?”
“Oh…yeah.” Toshiya smiled, clutching the book in a vice grip, “It was cool, you telling me about Tyche. I kind of wanted to learn more. And I guess they’re all in here.” He glanced down at the book uncertainly, “Tyche and co. Though it’s probably more fun if you tell me about them.”
“Yeah?” Kaoru beamed, stepping forward to fold the taller man into his arms. Toshiya had to marvel: just a few weeks ago, Kaoru had been almost unable to approach him; now, he was like a completely different person. Honestly, as cute as his shyness was, Toshiya found his confidence utterly compelling. In one long caress, he slid his arms around Kaoru’s waist, holding the book behind his client’s back; in a quick flutter of paper, the cheque was shoved up his sleeve. He almost breathed a sigh of relief.
“Hey,” he said, “You know, the library’s pretty quiet today.”
Kaoru shrugged, “Of course. It’s a Thursday afternoon.”
“So you think we can find a spot with nobody around?” Toshiya hinted, lightly sliding his fingers under the back of Kaoru’s shirt.
“Toshiya!” Kaoru’s eyes widened, “Here?”
“What?” Toshiya asked innocently, trailing his fingers around until they brushed over the zip of Kaoru’s jeans, “You want to take me all the way home?” Smirking a little, he rubbed the fabric beneath his hand slowly, wanting to make Kaoru’s body come to life under his touches.

“Toshiya…!” Kaoru breathed, “You’re crazy!”
Yet he didn’t look angry. His cheeks were reddening and his eyes were sparkling, but with excitement: grinning, Toshiya risked another hard stroke, feeling Kaoru’s flesh stiffening beneath his palm. It was the most curious feeling, rubbing another man to arousal like that, and Toshiya marvelled at the power he held over Kaoru’s body.
“You’ve got a beautiful dick,” he whispered in the other man’s ear, his lips brushing the lobe lightly, “What do you say?”
Kaoru gasped a little laugh against the warm skin of Toshiya’s neck.
“What are you?” he breathed a little incredulously, “And what have you done to me? I—”
His words were cut off as Toshiya quietly unzipped his jeans, popping the button open with an experienced thumb; grinning, he kissed the hollow of Kaoru’s throat to make him gasp, slowly sliding his hand inside the other man’s underwear.
“To-Toshiya!”
Toshiya leant against him gently, shielding his hand’s actions from view; he used his other arm to brace himself against the bookcase as his hand slowly began to tease Kaoru’s erection. The older man’s flesh was flushed and hard, pressing against the heel of his hand demandingly; grinning, Toshiya allowed his hand to lazily rub over the tip of Kaoru’s dick, kissing him quickly to stifle his moan. There was something about the feel of the other man in his hand that just made Toshiya feel as if he was coming undone. He felt a bead of moisture at the tip and smeared it down the shaft with this thumb, grinning at Kaoru’s slight hiss. As his hand moved faster, he kissed the other man deeply, his imagination aroused by the sound of his own fingers sliding over skin and the slight whisper of clothing; even as he listened, Kaoru’s breathing was beginning to speed up, his chest rising and falling against Toshiya’s own, and as they kissed his hands clasped around the back of Toshiya’s neck desperately. His hips were beginning to rock a little, pushing against Toshiya’s palm needily, and within a few minutes he let go, his head falling backwards as he came in his lover’s hand.
“Shhh,” Toshiya whispered fondly, his clean hand snaking around the shorter man’s back to support him as he sagged against the bookshelf. As Kaoru watched, he daintily lapped cum from his fingers. The expression on Kaoru’s face made him laugh.
“You taste good,” he shrugged, and softly the two of them began to chuckle together, clutching at each other, Kaoru shaking his head in disbelief.
“You’re a bad influence,” he said affectionately, and Toshiya grinned.
“The worst,” he agreed.

A/N: 1. I enjoy writing Die so much. Just thinking about him doing suggestive eyebrows makes me start snorting. I also love stupid euphemisms for sex. ‘Slap and tickle’ made me fo’ real chortle.
2. I don’t know why Toshiya is such an exhibitionist.
3. For some reason I really like how awkward this chapter gets when Kaoru walks in. He’s like the superman of social awkwardness.

Hahahahahaha, I am sorry the whole "slap and tickle" part made me laugh so hard, haven't heard that expression for AGES! At least he didn't say 'knocking boots" LOL

Naughty naughty Toshiya (altho doing it in a library is a great idea). Good on Die at hiding it, bad on him for mentioning the sex in the car XD

As much as I like your progression chapters, I also like this kind of interlude chapters as well :)

Eyebrow count: 3!

haha, don't apologise! I was laughing when I wrote it. I know it's immature, but whatever!
I guess in my head Die is the kind of person who just blurts out whatever occurs to him. Helpful, in this scenario ;)

This all over! I was sucked in by your blurb and I'm definitely not dissapointed. This is a nice gentle romance (so far) but considering where we are with the plot I can't wait till everything heats up, I'm looking forward to the drama.

A couple of things, first congrats on having amazing grammar skillz <3 you've got a pretty good writing style and the way you write speach is very good, natural and you don't avoid using the word said (hooray for said) however be careful with your low frequency words, I came across one or two that didn't fit or didn't make sense. Following on from that be careful with your descriptions, I like good descriptive in stories however not everything needs a metaphor and two adjectives when you do these things, which isn't that often usualy only when you're desribing surroundings, it makes the writing a bit inconsistent and a little more difficult to read. Just things that you might want to consider for growth as a writer.

Anyway I enjoyed this and I hope you keep on writing, that your chapters are short makes me sad but at least you update frequently!

Hey, nice to see a new face and also, thanks for the criticism. I'm not one to shy away from some good advice, so cheers, and I'll try to act upon what you said.
I think I'd tend to agree with you. I get a bit carried away sometimes, but nobody can read your work like an outsider, eh?
I've written up to chapter 21 at present, so hopefully from that point I might be able to improve.

Yay, once or twice I've seriously offended people by giving my opinion glad to see someone who isn't scared, though I do think I lack tack really...

I totally understand getting carried away with things, start taking about one thing to find you've accidently written an entire page of about it unfortunately by trying to avoid doing that you sometimes end up short handing yourself too, trial and error is the only way to get that balance I think. Best of luck to you, and if you've got so many chapters ready you best be posting up soon!

Oh naw. I've been lucky enough to have people leaving really flattering comments on so many chapters of this fic, so I'm sure I can stand a little criticism as well!

It's actually been a bit hit and miss with AMLOR anyway. Because I started writing it and then went on hiatus two years ago, it's been kind of awkward getting back into the groove. There's been a lot of flying into fits of mass deleting!

You continued a story you'd left of two years?! How on earth! I couldn't do that, I don't finish anything I write with more than three parts to it and it tend to be because I hate everything about it and thus start again, I'm just not really and improve and build on sort of girl so I can definitely understand mass deletion fits xD oh the joys of writing!

LMFAO. die. oh my god. his way of asking if toshiya and kaoru had sex was perfect, really.
i couldn't stop grinning to myself like an idiot.
i'm glad they both saved the fact kaoru walked over them so smoothly, it would have been a real mess if they have been discovered.

i wonder when toshiya will decide his "job" is done and when he realizes it's not really a job anymore.

i just love everything you write, really.
