Synopsis: I was aware that everything I was doing was unnatural. I knew that. But I felt my own sanity was something buoyant and high up, anchored by strings like so many balloons, and every time I saw how sad my own actions had made Die another string was cut, and another balloon floated dreamily away into the searing blue sky.
