disaster strikes

So bad news: Hermes, my faithful five month old laptop, has bitten the dust (quite literally; I opened him up and he was covered in it) and I've written my last word on his grotty keyboard.

He is still under warranty, but whether that means Toshiba will pay to get him fixed or not, I don't know. The unfortunate news is, until then, I am officially computer-less (apart from the library computers, where I'm currently writing from)...

The truly unfortunate news is that means, of course, my writing's gonna suffer a delay; the really truly unfortunate news is that I am now reeeeally scraping around for a means to write my final Critical Theory essay of the year...a healthy sixty percent of my module.

Put simply: ahhhhh!

In better news, I have planned my dissertation topic (a study of the role of myth and magic in the creation of the feminine role in the novels of Angela Carter) and recieved the definite green light from the university I'm studying at in Canada next year. So chocks away in that respect. I leave on the 1st September this year and I'm definitely not scared.

So pleeease be patient with me...I will still be writing when I can find the time with exams, essays, and computer access, but until I get a laptop of my own again, things are uncertain!

PEACE xx

Ohhh no, I'm a second year undergrad. The academic structure is a little different here, I guess - instead of having an exam in my final year, I'll submit a dissertation instead. Fun!

But yeah, no grad. I am but 20!

Eeek! That sounds awful. I mean, I guess you're getting a better education out of it or some such BS as that, but I'd rather take exams.

Oh narrrr, dissertations are where it's at! I kind of prefer the independence of it to exams. Plus, I tend to prefer any kind of work that I can complete whilst lying in bed, and they tend to frown upon that in exams.

PS, I told my housemates about our brian cox conversation. They awarded you a standing ovation.

All I have is a shitty six year old desktop, so lying in bed is out of the question. I'm also less likely to be distracted if it's an exam I have to be in class for.

To be fair to Brian Cox, I am willing to give him full credit for finding the Higgs Boson. It's stuck up there pretty good though, he's probably going to have to try several times.
